Very nice rare factory original French character face paper mache Clown about 24 " ( 62 cm ) with bonnet , wonderfully characterized modeling and painting , original body and wonderful silk costume !! This type of character Clown was very popularity in France until after the end of 19th. century and it was one of the most used symbol on publicity poster or Department Store and luxury Doll Store catalogs in Paris like the Polichinelle !! They was to find in different sizes and styles but always wearing very lavish and special ....... On populary and funny guy for special occasions and not only to Christmas !! This guy as beautiful deep modeling of character facial paper mache head with lovely painting of blue eyes , modeled and painted eye brows , with protruding cheekbones and chin , long nose and large smiling expression mouth with painted lips and teeth. Has modeled ears and original short brunette mohair wig under the original bonnet. Parts of papermache torso and original straw filled , wooden hands with well modeled fingers , cotton wool filled legs and feet . Generally all perfect condition to age .... France circa 1890 ... free of damage or large repair !! Wears his wonderful all original clothing of silk clown costume in red and cream with lovely details and different pattern ornate with gold trim and little bells. Typical clown bonnet and original wood shoes . The clothing was never removed from this guy .... and has generally excellent condition as well.... a little dusty and faded at back side with a stain .
